The VTX1300S launched the 1300 branch of the VTX family for 2003, as a cheaper, lighter companion to the huge VTX1800. Its new 1312 cc liquid-cooled 52-degree V-twin had three valves per cylinder, twin counterbalancers and a dry-sump layout that let the engine sit low, giving a seat height under 700 mm. Wire-spoked wheels, deep valanced fenders and a chrome-hooded headlight gave it a classic look, and shaft drive kept maintenance down.
